Succession Planning

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk (OPCCN) received the resignation of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk, Sarah Taylor, on Thursday 4 June 2026.

Following this vacancy, an election has been scheduled to appoint a new Police and Crime Commissioner for the area. This will take place on Thursday, 16 July 2026.

In the interim, Section 62(1)(a) of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 (“the Act”) requires a Police and Crime Panel, for a police area, to appoint an “Acting Commissioner” in these circumstances.

Succession Plans

In an extraordinary meeting taking place at Norfolk County Council on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, the Norfolk Police and Crime Panel will consider the appointment of an Acting Police and Crime Commissioner.

The acting PCC has all the same functions as the elected PCC, with the exception of not being able to issue or make any changes to the Police and Crime Plan. Any property or other rights vested in the Police and Crime Commissioner also transfer- Section 62(4).

The acting PCC would cease to be in office if the following criteria were applicable:

• Either the Panel or the acting PCC terminates the appointment;

• A new PCC is elected;

• The PCC ceases to be incapacitated;

• The PCC ceases to be suspended.
