Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner Sarah Taylor responds to prison situation

Commenting on the current situation with the release of ex-offenders, Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Sarah Taylor said: “The situation with prisons is concerning, however, I want to reassure Norfolk residents that this step will mean that the prison door will always be open for people who offend. Without this assurance, the ability of our police to keep Norfolk communities safe would only be compromised. It is also important to assure people that no violent offenders will be included in this scheme, this includes offenders of stalking, controlling and coercive behaviours in an intimate and family relationship as well as prisoners who are in breach of restraining orders, non-molestation orders, and domestic abuse protection orders.

“We will continue to collaborate with all the other agencies in the criminal justice system to ensure public safety. The police can be relied upon to make sure we remain safe and will always be a backstop to support the prison service.”
