Disability Network

The Norfolk Police Disability Network is co-hosted by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk (OPCCN) and Norfolk Constabulary.

The OPCCN and Norfolk Constabulary recognise that people with disabilities may experience barriers when reporting crime or seeking support, and may be disproportionately impacted by some crimes. The Disability Network will assist in removing these barriers and addressing any disproportionality through listening to the expertise of professionals, disability organisations and the lived experiences of people with disabilities. We will use what we learn to improve policing and make support and intervention services better.

How does it work?

Throughout the year, the Constabulary and the OPCCN will engage with people with disabilities, and the charities, organisations and services that support them, to understand the key crime and policing-related issues people with disabilities are facing.

We will also analyse local and national data to get an accurate picture of what the statistics tell us.

We will use what we learn to create key themes for annual events where there will be focused discussion and problem solving by people with disabilities, support services, and the police.

How can you get involved?

  • You can speak to local services and organisations about the challenges you are facing.
The Constabulary and OPCCN will be directly engaging with professionals and key organisations throughout the year.

  • You can complete our survey.
We are running an ongoing survey which can be completed by disabled people, professionals, and representatives of disability organisations. You may complete the survey as many times as you like, so if you submit a response and then have more ideas for discussion topics later please complete the survey again. You can ask a professional or organisation to complete the survey on your behalf if you prefer.

  • You can attend our annual events.
We will be hosting an annual event focusing on a key theme that has emerged from everything we have been told over the last year. We want people to attend so we can hear their views, experiences, and ideas.

When is the next event?

The next event is going to be on Tuesday 3rd February 2026, from 1pm-5pm at The Space, Roundtree Way, Norwich, NR7 8SQ.

The theme of the event is disability hate crime.

We welcome people with disabilities, those who care for people with disabilities, and professionals working alongside people with disabilities to attend.

The event will include presentations from the police and local victim support services, and the opportunity for people with disabilities and their carers to talk about their experiences and tell us how we can improve the services we offer.

The event can be attended in person, or online via Microsoft Teams.

Details on how to get to The Space can be found on their website: Attending an Event.

To register interest in attending the event, please email Fay.Crangle@norfolk.police.uk, and state whether you would like to attend in person or via Teams.
