PCC message during Holocaust Memorial Day

Norfolk's Police and Crime Commissioner Giles Orpen-Smellie has released the following message for Holocaust Memorial Day.

"We live in a democratic and free society but it is important that every member of our society can enjoy that democracy and freedom.

"The Holocaust, or Shoah was one history’s worst examples in which people were persecuted because of their faith, politics, disabilities and other reasons.

"It is, therefore, essential that we remember our history, that we remember the Holocaust and we remember our individual responsibility to protect our democracy and freedom, so that all members of our communities can live their lives with feelings of safety and dignity."
