PCC attends passing out ceremony
In February, Sarah Taylor, Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) joined the families and friends of new officer recruits at her second Passing Out ceremony.
The new recruits had completed their 22-week classroom-based learning phase as part of their Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) three-year learning programme which combines a degree programme with on-the-job training.
Guests invited to address the ceremony included Justice of the Peace, Mary Jane Platt, Force Chaplain, Rev. Ian Fifield and the PCC.

Sarah said: “It’s really important that we have moments like this to celebrate the efforts and achievements of our new officers.
“Whenever, I’ve been out on patrol with your colleagues, it has been clear to me that the public hold the police in high regard. It is affirming to witness the skills you and your colleagues practice; decisive decision making, team spirit, bravery and selflessness.
“Your role in Norfolk is to maintain the high standards that have already been achieved by your colleagues. That we are one of the safest counties in the country is testament to that.
“Nationally, there are challenges to the reputation of policing and this is not lost on me. I know how much work has been done here to build the right culture, valuing openness and honesty and I hope this will stand you in good stead to thrive in your professional careers.
“And to the next generation of police officers, I’d like to think that you will be role models and an inspiration to those volunteer cadets wishing to make policing their chosen career. Inspiring young people while instilling them with a sense of hard work, discipline and what it is to be a good citizen is more important than ever.”
