Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner has extended the contract of the county’s Chief Constable by two years. The extension to Simon Bailey’s contract will see him stay as the county’s top police officer until the autumn of 2020.
Announcing the contract extension, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Lorne Green said: “This should be seen as a vote of confidence in one of the country’s outstanding chief constables. Simon is recognised locally and nationally as one of the best in his profession.
“We know that our police force faces a number of substantial and significant challenges over the coming years and I believe that this contract extension represents continuity and commitment and as such benefits both the people of Norfolk and the force in general.”
Mr Bailey said: “I am delighted Lorne has extended my contract. Since his appointment, we have built an excellent working relationship. We share the same passion for policing in the county and I look forward to working with him to ensure that Norfolk maintains its status as one of the best performing forces in the country.”
Simon Bailey became Norfolk’s Chief Constable on 28 October 2013 and signed a five-year contract. Mr Bailey began his police service in Norfolk and rose through the ranks in various postings around the county. He was a detective for a substantial part of that time. He also undertook a number of roles outside of Norfolk. He was the first Chief Constable to have risen through the ranks of one police force.
